
Tenerife North Airport Soundproofing Plan Expands
Spanish airport operator AENA announced a 900,000 euro investment to soundproof 68 homes and a secondary school near Tenerife North Airport, as its acoustic insulation plan expands to cover 3,150 properties.
Spanish airport operator AENA announced on Thursday that it will spend 900,000 euros to soundproof 68 homes and begin the first phase of soundproofing at Geneto Secondary School. All these properties are located near Tenerife North Airport.
AENA also stated that another 656,500 euros has been set aside to soundproof an additional 75 homes. This funding is pending approval from the residents.
Representatives from Spain's Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, the State Air Safety Agency, and the city councils of La Laguna, Tegueste, and Tacoronte attended a meeting on Thursday to review the acoustic insulation plan.
The meeting also covered 36 new requests to join the soundproofing program. Furthermore, after necessary measurements, it was confirmed that corrective work would be carried out on 102 additional homes.
So far, soundproofing work has been completed on 1,121 properties (1,024 in La Laguna, 42 in Tacoronte, and 55 in Tegueste). Another 82 homes are currently having work done.
Following its expansion this year, the Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna Airport soundproofing plan now includes 3,150 homes. This total adds 649 new properties in La Laguna, 44 in Tacoronte, and 3 in Tegueste. To date, 1,694 applications have been received for the program.
AENA therefore reminds the public that 1,456 eligible homeowners have not yet applied for acoustic insulation.
