Tenerife North Airport Resumes Normal Operations Following Storm Disruptions
Tenerife North Airport has resumed normal operations after weather-related visibility issues forced the diversion of 26 flights on Tuesday.
Operations at Tenerife North Airport returned to normal early Wednesday morning, resolving the logistical issues caused by the previous day’s weather. According to airport operator Aena, visibility has improved enough for planes to safely land and take off once again.
The storm, named Therese, forced authorities to divert 26 flights on Tuesday night. To ensure passenger safety, these national and inter-island flights were redirected to Tenerife South-Reina Sofía Airport.
This incident highlights the challenges of operating at the Los Rodeos terminal. Due to its high altitude and specific location, the airport is particularly susceptible to poor weather, which is a common issue for air travel in the Canary Islands. When visibility drops below safety limits, flights must be diverted, often causing significant delays and scheduling disruptions. With the weather now stable, air traffic has returned to normal across all affected airports.
