Tenerife Music Festival to Proceed as Planned Following Security Review

Authorities in Santa Cruz de Tenerife have confirmed that the Tenerife Music Festival will proceed as scheduled on June 12, following security assessments that resolved concerns regarding its proximity to a religious ceremony.

Concerns over the scheduling of a major religious ceremony led by Pope Leo XIV and the start of the Tenerife Music Festival on June 12 at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife have been resolved. Official reports from the Government Sub-delegation and the Port Authority confirm that both events can safely take place, and there is no reason to cancel the festival’s permits.

Security forces, including the National Police and the Civil Guard, have confirmed that the events can be managed safely. The venues are physically separated, and the religious service is scheduled to end by 2:00 p.m., well before the festival begins. Authorities have stated there are no security threats and that enough personnel are available to oversee both events. The Port Authority has also confirmed that the space can accommodate both activities, leaving final permit management to the City Council.

This decision comes as the Canary Islands government places the region on alert for June 11 and 12 due to the large crowds expected and potential traffic disruptions. While this alert allows for better coordination of emergency services, the regional government has clarified that local city councils retain full authority over their own event schedules.

Despite some public concern regarding noise from festival sound checks, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council remains firm. Officials state that potential noise is not a legal reason to revoke existing permits. With these technical and security assessments in place, the festival will proceed as planned, with doors opening at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
