The Museum of Science and the Cosmos in La Laguna hosts a public outreach event this Thursday featuring expert talks on galactic evolution and safety preparations for the upcoming solar eclipse.

Science outreach returns to Tenerife this Thursday as the Museum of Science and the Cosmos (MCC) in La Laguna hosts the latest installment of the From the Sky to the Thesis series. Organized in partnership with the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands (IAC), the event aims to bridge the gap between academic research and the general public.

The program begins at 5:00 p.m. and covers two key astronomical topics: the mechanics of the cosmos and preparations for a major celestial event happening this weekend.

The first session features Eduardo Albuquerque Hartmann, a predoctoral researcher at the IAC. He will discuss galactic assembly, explaining how studying star clusters helps astrophysicists map the history and evolution of galaxies. This research is vital to understanding the structure of the universe, an area where the IAC is a global leader.

The second session, titled Solar Blackout: Everything About the August 12th Eclipse, will be led by Maialen Orte García. With a total solar eclipse visible from Spain this Sunday, this talk serves as an essential guide. The expert will explain the science behind the eclipse and provide crucial safety advice to ensure attendees can observe the event without risking eye damage.

This series is designed to make complex research accessible, giving the public a direct look at the science behind the astronomical phenomena shaping the coming days.
