Tenerife Museum Blends Science, Arts, and Poetry for School Children
The Science and Cosmos Museum in Tenerife is offering free, unique performances blending science, poetry, and theater for local schools to spark curiosity in STEM subjects.
The Science and Cosmos Museum (MCC) in Tenerife is hosting a series of engaging events for local schools, blending science, performing arts, and poetry.
From Monday to Wednesday, students will experience two shows by the Zaragoza-based group Promotora de Acción Infantil (PAI), who have performed at the museum before.
"Theater is a fun and creative way to explore scientific ideas," said José Carlos Acha, the Cabildo de Tenerife's Minister of Culture, Museums, and Sports. He added that it "sparks young people's curiosity in these important subjects." Acha also noted that this is a unique project in Spain, as opportunities to see science or astronomy-themed theater and poetry are rare.
PAI's show, "Artilogios," combines theater, poetry, music, juggling, and wordplay. It features electronic and mechanical gadgets like a graphitophone and a whisperphone, alongside poems by well-known authors such as María Elena Walsh and Federico García Lorca.
These performances are scheduled for Monday, with sessions at 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM in the MCC auditorium.
The second show, "Garbeo cósmico," takes the audience on a humorous cosmic adventure, mixing astronomy, poetry, and storytelling. Using stunning space images and everyday items, an actor will explain basic astronomy concepts, like our place in the galaxy and the life cycle of stars.
"Garbeo cósmico" will be presented on Tuesday and Wednesday, also with two daily shows at 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM.
This initiative by the Science and Cosmos Museum aims to introduce astronomy and technology in a fresh and entertaining way, encouraging creativity, scientific interest, and artistic appreciation in young people.
The events are free, but space is limited. Schools interested in attending should email their applications to didacticamcc@museosdetenerife.org on a first-come, first-served basis.
