Life in the Tenerife metropolitan area is returning to normal as authorities ease safety restrictions following the passage of storm Therese, though coastal areas remain closed due to rough seas.

Life in the Tenerife metropolitan area is beginning to return to normal following the recent bout of bad weather caused by storm Therese. Officials in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and San Cristóbal de La Laguna announced that Sunday, March 22, marks a turning point, allowing public services to resume and safety restrictions to be eased.

In the capital, the local government downgraded its Municipal Emergency Plan (PEMU) from alert to pre-alert status at midnight. This means that most preventive closures have been lifted. However, the plan remains active as a precaution, ensuring the city can react quickly if conditions change, in line with ongoing regional alerts across the islands.

In La Laguna, municipal facilities are scheduled to reopen at 8:00 a.m. this Sunday. Despite the return to normal operations, the city council is keeping coastal bathing areas closed, as the rough sea remains a safety risk. The Municipal Operational Coordination Center (CECOPAL) will continue to monitor the weather and handle any remaining issues.

While the weather has improved after days of heavy rain and wind, authorities are urging the public to stay alert. Residents are advised to continue exercising caution, particularly near ravines and the coast, where saturated ground and strong surf still pose potential risks.
