Tenerife marks Holy Wednesday with island-wide religious processions and traditional ceremonies that celebrate the region's deep-rooted cultural and liturgical heritage.

Holy Wednesday is a highlight of the liturgical calendar in Tenerife, bringing communities together across the island. Beyond its religious significance, these events are a vital part of local heritage, drawing crowds from major cities to the smallest towns.

In the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the focus is on the Plaza del Príncipe. The Nazarene will leave La Concepción at 8:15 p.m., meeting the Virgin of Sorrows and Saint John the Evangelist, who depart from San Francisco de Asís fifteen minutes later. Earlier in the day, at 7:00 p.m., the Nazarene will also process from the La Candelaria chapel in the La Salud neighborhood.

In San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a 7:00 p.m. Eucharist at the Cathedral precedes the procession of Jesus the Nazarene and Our Lady of Solitude. Additionally, the parish of San Benito Abad will hold a service and procession for Veronica and the Holy Face starting at 6:30 p.m.

Events are taking place across the rest of the island as well:

  • Northern Zone:

    • Tacoronte: Events begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Sanctuary of the Christ.
    • El Sauzal: Mass at 7:00 p.m., followed by a procession along Calle de La Amargura.
