Tenerife Man Held for Gender Violence on Women's Day

A man was arrested in Tenerife on International Women's Day, accused of unlawfully detaining and domestically abusing two women.

A man was arrested in Tenerife, accused of holding two women against their will and domestic abuse. This incident, happening on International Women's Day, has drawn attention to the ongoing problem of gender-based violence in Spain.

Police reports state the arrest happened last Sunday at a house in Los Realejos. National and Local Police officers started their operation around 11:00 AM on Sunday. They had received a call reporting a possible fight or knife attack at a home on Real Street in Icod El Alto.

When police arrived, the man came out onto the street. After talking to the two women inside, officers arrested him. The women told police he had stopped them from leaving the house.

The man, who is middle-aged, faces charges of unlawful detention and gender-based violence. Later that Sunday afternoon, forensic specialists from the Puerto de la Cruz-Los Realejos Police Station visited the scene. They conducted a detailed inspection and took photographs inside the house as part of their ongoing investigation.
