Canary Islands police have arrested a man in Tenerife for animal abuse and violating a court-ordered ban after discovering 16 malnourished dogs and multiple animal carcasses on his property.

Animal abuse recidivism is back in the spotlight after a recent intervention by the Canary Islands Autonomous Police. According to the General Corps of the Canary Police (CGPC), officers in northern Tenerife arrested a man for animal abuse and violating a court order that had previously banned him from owning animals.

This case highlights the ongoing challenge authorities face in enforcing court-ordered bans, which are intended to prevent repeat offenses. When police inspected the suspect’s property, they discovered 16 dogs living in horrific conditions. The animals were severely malnourished and suffering from various health issues due to a long-term lack of veterinary care.

The situation was even more grim than the state of the survivors suggested. During the search, officers found the carcasses of a puppy and a ferret, along with skeletal remains that indicate other dogs had previously been kept on the site. The property itself was described as unsanitary, filled with waste, feces, and poorly ventilated structures.

The investigation is ongoing as police work to determine if there were other unreported cases of abuse or if more animals were involved. This operation is part of the Autonomous Police’s broader effort to enforce animal protection laws and environmental regulations, which have been strengthened in recent years to better combat abandonment and systematic abuse.
