Tenerife Libby’s La Laguna has signed Mexican setter María Celeste Vela for the 2026/2027 season. She will replace Canadian Quinn Pelland, who is expected to leave the club for the United States after two successful years as a key playmaker.
Vela, 26, joins the team led by David Martín after spending the last two seasons with Sayre Mayser in Gran Canaria. Having already played in the Spanish league, she is expected to adapt quickly to the team. Her background includes a collegiate career at Texas A&M University-Commerce, a stint with Albania’s SK Tirana—where she won two titles in 2022—and a bronze medal at the 2023 Pan American Games.
The coaching staff chose Vela for her offensive style, as they look for a setter who can take more risks at the net and offer more variety in the attack.
This signing is part of a broader roster shake-up. While the club has confirmed that captain Yeisy Soto will return for a third season and coach Ricardo Lemos has renewed his contract, Camila Olguín and Itziar López will be leaving the team.
