Tenerife Libby’s La Laguna Secures Playoff Spot After Mid-Season Turnaround
After a mid-season turnaround led by head coach Ricardo Lemos, Tenerife Libby's La Laguna has secured a spot in the Liga Iberdrola playoffs, extending the club's streak of post-season appearances.
Club Voleibol Haris—known commercially as Tenerife Libby's La Laguna—has proven its resilience once again. After a rocky start to the season that saw the team sitting in the relegation zone halfway through, they have successfully turned things around to secure a spot in the Liga Iberdrola playoffs.
This comeback ensures the club continues its unbroken streak of playoff appearances since being promoted to the top flight. The turnaround was driven by a major restructuring of the team’s coaching and roster. The arrival of head coach Ricardo Lemos proved decisive; under his leadership, the team earned 20 points in their final 10 matches, earning him a one-year contract extension. The mid-season additions of Darina Kumanov and Alli Cudworth were also vital in stabilizing the team’s performance.
The team clinched eighth place in the standings with a 3-2 victory over Heidelberg Volkswagen. This win not only proved they can compete with top-tier rivals but also boosted the squad's confidence ahead of their quarter-final series against Avarca de Menorca. The series begins this Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at the Pablos Abril arena in Taco. It will be a tough test, as the Balearic side holds home-court advantage after finishing at the top of the regular-season table.
Team captain Yeisy Soto emphasized the importance of mental toughness, noting that the playoffs are a fresh start where every team begins on equal footing. The club’s history—boasting 17 final appearances over the last eleven seasons—shows they are well-equipped to handle high-pressure moments.
Club president David Martín praised the organization’s effort to salvage a season that began with significant struggles, including missing out on the Copa de la Reina. Despite those early hurdles, the team is now fully focused on competing for the national title. During a recent presentation at the Hotel Barceló Santa Cruz Contemporáneo, the squad showcased a united front, ready to face the final stretch of the season with renewed conviction.
