Tenerife Libby's La Laguna secured a crucial 3-0 victory over Kiele Socuéllamos in their first home game after the Christmas break, moving them out of the relegation zone.
Tenerife Libby's La Laguna moved out of the relegation zone yesterday with a 3-0 victory over Kiele Socuéllamos. The win came in their first game back at the Pablos Abril Pavilion after the Christmas break, during the fourteenth round of the Iberdrola League. Carolina Camino and Alli Cudworth were the standout attackers for La Laguna, securing another vital win for coach Ricardo Lemos's team.
The match began evenly, with the score tied at 3-3. Yeisy Soto was active early on, scoring points with spikes and blocks. Kiele then pulled ahead slightly, leading 11-8 after a strong attack from Fatu Conteh. However, coach Lemos called a timeout, which helped his team make adjustments. Libby's then went on a six-point run, taking a 14-12 lead. They eventually won the closely fought first set 28-26.
Energized by their first-set win and the home crowd, La Laguna started the second set with a 6-4 lead. Kiele soon caught up and then moved ahead 10-8. After several long and intense rallies, Camino and Cudworth stepped up at crucial moments, helping their team win the set 25-22.
The third set was also close until Cudworth once again helped the home team take the lead. Tenerife Libby's capitalized on their opponents' mistakes to win the set 28-26, securing three vital points in their effort to move further away from the bottom of the league.
Elsewhere yesterday, Cisneros La Laguna pulled off a remarkable comeback, turning a 0-2 deficit into a 3-2 victory against Servigroup Playas de Benidorm. This win marked coach Miguel Rivera's team's second consecutive triumph.
After a slow start, the Tenerife side gradually found their rhythm, energizing the crowd at Ríos Tejera. A series of early errors from the home team and strong play from the visitors led to them falling behind 0-2. However, the introduction of Guillem Pont and Thomas Sleurink revitalized Miguel Rivera's squad. They took control of the third set, winning 25-21, and then battled for every point to secure the fourth set, also 25-21. With powerful spikes and an ace from Fabián Flores, Cisneros forced a tie-break, where they sealed an epic 15-12 victory.
In Superliga 2, Cuesta Piedra once again showed their dominance, this time against Voleibol Madrid. Élite also secured a 3-0 victory over Cementos, while Fedes defeated Surmenor 3-1. Unfortunately, Arona suffered a defeat against Astillero, leaving them in a difficult position.
In the men's league, Arona claimed a 3-1 away victory against Lleida. Meanwhile, Cisneros' reserve team is set to host Lleida today at 4:00 PM.
