Tenerife Libby’s La Laguna Launches New Season with Ambitious European and National Goals
Tenerife Libby’s La Laguna has officially launched its new season, setting ambitious goals for national and European competition while emphasizing the importance of its youth academy.
Tenerife Libby’s La Laguna officially kicked off its new season this Wednesday with a ceremony at its facilities in Taco. The event marked the start of the preseason for the team as they prepare for a demanding schedule that includes both the Iberdrola League and the CEV Challenge Cup.
The launch was attended by María Rojas, Director General of Physical Activity and Sports for the Canary Islands, and Yolanda Moliné, CEO of Sports for the Cabildo de Tenerife. Club president David Martín highlighted the club’s unique position in Spain, noting that it is the only organization capable of maintaining teams in both the top division and Superliga 2, while also competing on the European stage.
Beyond the current roster, the club’s leadership emphasized the long-term future of volleyball on the island. Martín stressed the importance of the youth academy, noting that the first team serves as an inspiration for the nearly 400 young players within the club. The team’s goal is to build on this developmental foundation and turn their home arena, Pablos Abril, into a difficult venue for visiting teams.
Head coach Ricardo Lemos, returning for another season, has set an ambitious target: reaching the finals in every national competition. He emphasized the need for the team to unite under the club’s identity from the very first training session. Team captain Yeisy Soto concluded the event by reaffirming the squad’s commitment, noting that their success will ultimately depend on their performance on the court. The presentation ended with a thank you to the club's sponsors, whose support remains essential to the team’s ability to compete at the highest level.
