The Tenerife Island Council has launched a month-long health and wellness campaign featuring diverse sports programs and digital tools to encourage residents to integrate physical activity into their daily lives.

The Tenerife Island Council has launched a new campaign to encourage residents to get active, naming April a month dedicated to health and well-being. By taking advantage of the island’s natural landscape and public spaces, the initiative aims to help people build lasting, healthy habits.

This campaign highlights the growing importance of the sports sector, which now contributes 4.45% to the Canary Islands' GDP. To support this, the Council has updated its digital platforms to make it easier for residents to find local sports activities. They have also announced a 2025 study on sports habits, which will help shape future public health policies.

The program offers something for everyone. Students can look forward to hiking trips, water sports, and various school competitions. Additionally, the Council is partnering with the University of La Laguna to host workshops for young athletes across the island, focusing on the mental side of sports, such as managing frustration.

For adults, the program includes the "Master Games" for those over 30 and the ongoing weekend Cabildo Games. Through these efforts, the Council hopes to make physical activity a natural part of daily life for all residents, utilizing both the island's urban areas and its beautiful natural environment.
