The Tenerife Island Council has launched its "Diverse Pride, Shared Voices" program, featuring a month-long series of cultural, artistic, and activist events across the island to promote LGTBIQ+ inclusion and rights.

The Tenerife Island Council (Cabildo de Tenerife) has announced its June program, "Diverse Pride, Shared Voices." Coordinated by the Island Directorate for Equality and Diversity, the initiative aims to bring LGTBIQ+ Pride events to various locations across the island to promote inclusion and fight discrimination.

Supported by the Cabildo’s presidency and local municipalities like La Orotava, the program emphasizes protecting hard-won rights through a mix of activism, history, and the arts. A notable addition this year is the "Pride in the Penitentiary Center" project, which will run throughout the month at the Tenerife II prison.

The cultural schedule focuses on visibility and historical memory. Puerto de la Cruz will host the exhibitions "Geography of LGTBIQ+ Resistance in the Canary Islands" and "Trans Memory," both of which will later move to the Cabildo’s headquarters. Other events include screenings of the documentary "Pink Triangles" in Guía de Isora, La Orotava, Tegueste, and Tacoronte, as well as a book presentation for "Beyond the Night. Vampis Club" at the Noble Hall on June 17.

Performing arts highlights include the play "A Drag is Born" and a performance by the Arcoíris Choir at the Auditorio de Tenerife on June 19. The celebrations will conclude with "Festivalullo 2026" in La Orotava on June 27. Official manifesto readings are scheduled for June 25 at the Cabildo headquarters and June 26 at the Plaza del Adelantado in La Laguna, the latter coinciding with "The House of Show" at the Teatro Leal.

Beyond the events themselves, this program highlights the ongoing local debate regarding the protection of minority rights. By hosting activities in diverse spaces—from prisons to municipal theaters—the Cabildo aims to make respect for sexual and gender diversity a core part of life on the island.
