Tenerife Launches Industrial Excellence Awards to Boost Economic Diversification
Tenerife's Island Council launched its inaugural Industrial Excellence Awards to celebrate the sector's economic, social, and environmental contributions, aiming to foster diversification and job creation.
Tenerife's Island Council, through its Industry department, recently hosted a gala to present the Industrial Excellence Awards. This new initiative aims to shine a light on the vital role of the industrial sector in Tenerife's economy.
The event was attended by Lope Afonso, Vice President of the Island Council, Manuel Domínguez, Vice President of the Canary Islands Government, and Manuel Fernández, Minister of Industry. They praised the event, calling it "a commitment to the industrial sector as a way to diversify our island's economy."
Other local and regional officials also attended the awards, showing their support for the Tenerife Island Council's efforts to boost the industrial sector as a key driver of the economy and job creation.
Speaking at the event, Lope Afonso, Vice President of the Island Council, stressed "how much we value industry as a strategic economic sector for Tenerife. This was further cemented this term with the creation of an Industry Ministry, a first in our history."
The awards also recognized how industrial companies contribute to social and labor integration. The sector provides good jobs, which improves the quality of life for families in Tenerife and offers opportunities for career development.
Sustainability was also a key factor in the awards. Lope Afonso mentioned that "we prioritize sustainability in Tenerife, promoting policies based on environmental, social, and economic sustainability."
The awards also considered how industrial companies can enhance Tenerife's reputation abroad, positioning the island as a top choice for businesses looking to start new ventures.
Finally, the contributions of industrial companies to training and research were acknowledged. This work helps to better qualify young people, who can then find fulfilling employment in the sector, making the most of Tenerife's talent pool.
Lope Afonso and Manuel Fernández from the Tenerife Island Council, along with Manuel Domínguez from the Canary Islands Government, reiterated their dedication to this sector. They believe it is "destined to be a catalyst for change, enabling economic diversification in Tenerife and, in turn, a stronger society through solid economic activity. This will give us independence from more specific sectors."
The judging panel for these awards consisted of professionals and associations from Tenerife's industrial sector. This included FEMETE, ASINCA, the UNIVERSITY OF LA LAGUNA, the CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, and PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS OF INDUSTRIAL, TECHNICAL, AND HIGHER ENGINEERING on the island.
