Tenerife is hosting its first Rural Products Fair this Saturday at the Casa del Vino in El Sauzal to promote local agriculture and connect consumers directly with island farmers.

Support for local produce is growing in Tenerife with the launch of the island’s first Rural Products Fair. Hosted by the Tenerife Island Council, the event will take place this Saturday, June 27, at the Casa del Vino in El Sauzal. It will be open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The fair is designed to highlight the island’s agricultural sector, which is vital not only to the economy but also to preserving Tenerife’s landscape and cultural identity.

Around twenty exhibitors—including cooperatives, small businesses, and individual farmers—will be on hand to sell their goods directly to the public. By cutting out intermediaries, this "zero-kilometer" approach allows shoppers to learn exactly where their food comes from while helping local farmers, ranchers, and fishers earn a fairer income. As sustainability and rural employment become increasingly important, the event aims to build stronger connections between the public and those who work the land.

Visitors to El Sauzal will find a diverse range of products, from traditional staples like gofio, honey, and cheese to specialty items such as locally roasted coffee, microalgae, cider, oils, preserves, and fresh coastal catches.

Valentín González, the island’s councilor for the sector, believes the fair is about more than just sales. He emphasizes that recognizing the hard work of those in agriculture and fishing is essential to keeping rural communities vibrant and encouraging the next generation to take up the trade. By promoting direct sales, the fair serves as both a showcase for Tenerife’s gastronomy and a reminder of how responsible shopping helps protect the island’s economy and natural environment.
