Tenerife Launches Final Phase of Amarilla Golf Coastal Restoration Project
The Tenerife Island Council and San Miguel de Abona have signed an agreement to invest over 1.4 million euros in the final phase of the Amarilla Golf coastal restoration project.
The Tenerife Island Council and the San Miguel de Abona City Council have signed an agreement to complete the coastal restoration of Amarilla Golf. This partnership marks the third and final stage of a long-term urban regeneration project, now focusing on the Ensenada de la Rueda area.
The final phase has a budget of 1,441,715 euros, to be spent between 2026 and 2027. The Island Council will provide the majority of the funding—1,235,727 euros (85.71%)—while the local council will contribute the remaining 205,988 euros. This investment is part of the "Tenerife and the Sea" strategy, which aims to restore coastal areas for public use and boost tourism through sustainable development.
Following two previous phases led separately by the Island and local councils, this final stage will improve approximately 30,000 square meters of coastline. Lope Afonso, the island’s vice president, noted that the project is a key step in reorganizing the southern coast, focusing on better accessibility, improved infrastructure, and a more attractive environment.
This project builds on previous local improvements, such as the upgrades to El Salvador Beach and the creation of new pedestrian paths. By focusing on Ensenada de la Rueda, authorities aim to highlight the area's natural beauty while integrating it with urban development. This final phase completes a series of reforms designed to modernize how San Miguel de Abona interacts with its coastline, ensuring it meets modern standards for tourism and public enjoyment.
