Tenerife Launches €600,000 Grant Program for International Development Projects
The Tenerife Island Council has launched a 600,000-euro grant program for 2026, offering upfront funding to support humanitarian and sustainable development projects in West Africa and Latin America.
The Tenerife Island Council has officially launched its grant program for international development and solidarity for 2026. Managed by the Island Directorate of Foreign Action and Institutional Relations, this initiative aims to strengthen the island’s role in humanitarian aid and sustainable development.
The program features a total budget of 600,000 euros to support Development Non-Governmental Organizations (DNGOs) and other local partners. Individual projects can receive between 30,000 and 65,000 euros, with the potential to cover the entire cost of a project. To help organizations work effectively in challenging environments, the Council will provide the full grant amount upfront, removing the need for groups to rely on their own cash reserves.
Strategically, the funding will focus on West Africa and Latin America, regions that have long been key partners in Spanish development efforts. The decision to offer advance payments addresses a common concern from the non-profit sector, where a lack of immediate liquidity often hinders urgent work on the ground.
For Vice President Lope Afonso and Island Director Pedro González, this program is about more than just funding; it is a way to align local resources with global development goals. By streamlining the process and reducing financial red tape, the Island Council hopes to make it easier for organizations to carry out their vital work in destination countries.
