Tenerife Launches 47-Home Public Housing Project in Granadilla
Tenerife's Cabildo and ICAVI are building 47 new public homes in Granadilla de Abona, a €9.6 million project aimed at tackling the island's housing shortage and part of a larger island-wide initiative.
Tenerife is tackling its housing shortage with a new public housing project in Granadilla de Abona, as announced by the Cabildo de Tenerife (Tenerife's island government). This initiative will see 47 new homes built, marking a significant step in the island's plan to increase its public housing options.
These homes will be located in the San Isidro area, specifically between Los Tableritos, Los Setos, Obispo Pérez Cáceres, and Peatonal Padre Esteban streets. The project is a collaboration between the Cabildo's municipal cooperation and housing department and the Canary Islands Housing Institute (ICAVI), formalized through a specific agreement.
The total cost for these 47 homes is 9,666,430.87 euros. The Cabildo de Tenerife will contribute 4,145,824.80 euros, while ICAVI will provide 5,520,606.07 euros.
This project is part of a larger agreement between the Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands. This broader plan includes developing seven public housing projects across seven different municipalities in Tenerife, with an estimated total budget of 45 million euros.
Lope Afonso, the island's vice-president, highlighted the Cabildo's active efforts in promoting housing on the island during the current term. He emphasized that they are using strategic methods to acquire land and build public housing, positioning the institution as a key player in addressing the housing challenges faced by residents.
