The Cabildo de Tenerife has launched the latest edition of the PIALTE+ program, investing over 359,000 euros to integrate creative literacy and critical thinking into school curricula across the island.

The Cabildo de Tenerife has officially awarded contracts for the latest edition of the Tenerife Island Learning and Reading Program (PIALTE+). With a budget of over 359,000 euros, the program aims to weave reading and creativity into the curriculum for students from primary school through to high school (Bachillerato).

The program’s value lies in its focus on more than just basic literacy; it is designed to sharpen students' critical thinking and expressive skills. It features ten specific projects, including the Island School for Young Writers, the Azagal Prize Committee, and various storytelling and creative writing workshops. These are led by PIALTE agents who work directly in classrooms, collaborating with teachers to connect lessons with reading habits and involve families and the wider school community.

This year, the program introduces a key operational upgrade: the use of professional audiovisual resources. This will help document the program's activities and allow for a more detailed assessment of its impact. The initiative is part of the Cabildo’s Department of Employment, Education, and Youth, which is prioritizing educational innovation to improve the quality of teaching across the island.

By moving from a supplementary support service to a core structural tool, PIALTE+ is now firmly embedded in the classroom. By integrating oral communication, creative writing, and reading comprehension into daily lessons, the program aims to boost academic performance while equipping students with the essential skills needed for their personal growth and future success.
