The Tenerife Island Council has launched a 3.3 million euro project to stabilize and restore 65,000 square meters of hillside near the Mercatenerife logistics hub to improve road safety and environmental conditions.

The Tenerife Island Council has launched a 3.3 million euro project to restore the hillside next to the Mercatenerife facilities, located along the TF-1 highway. The eight-month project will rehabilitate nearly 65,000 square meters of land that has long been neglected.

This area is a major gateway to the capital, but its steep terrain has suffered from erosion, waste buildup, and invasive plants for years. Overseen by the Minister of the Primary Sector, Valentín González, the project aims to stabilize the ground to prevent landslides and improve safety for drivers on the nearby road.

This work is part of a broader effort to modernize Mercatenerife. Over the past three years, more than 12 million euros have been invested to make the logistics hub more sustainable and efficient. This year alone, 4.9 million euros are being spent to support the facility’s vital role in the region’s food supply chain.

Beyond improving road safety, the project addresses long-standing concerns about the appearance and environmental health of the entrances to Santa Cruz. By stabilizing the slope and restoring the land, the Island Council hopes to better integrate the site into the urban landscape while ensuring the infrastructure meets modern operational and environmental standards.
