Tenerife will begin a €14 million, six-month road improvement project on the TF-1 highway starting Sunday, October 25, to enhance safety and infrastructure for over 70,000 daily vehicles.

Tenerife is set to begin major roadworks on the TF-1, one of the island’s busiest routes, to repair wear and tear. Island Council President Rosa Dávila announced that the project, which supports over 70,000 vehicles daily, will begin on Sunday, October 25. The €14 million investment covers an 18.6-kilometer stretch between the capital and Güímar.

The project is divided into two sections to manage its complexity. The first covers 8.5 kilometers with a budget of €7.5 million, while the second covers 10.1 kilometers at a cost of €6.3 million. Each section is expected to take six months to complete.

The work involves more than just resurfacing. The plan includes improving road grip, updating lane markings, and installing new signage. Safety upgrades are also a priority, with the addition of rumble strips on the shoulders, reinforced median barriers, and improvements to connecting ramps.

Traffic management will be the biggest challenge for commuters during the six-month construction period. Partial closures in both directions will begin at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday between kilometer markers 1+400 and 20+000. While the Council has not yet released a specific schedule for lane closures, they are urging drivers to exercise caution and follow all temporary signs. This project is part of a broader strategy to maintain the island's essential transport links between the metropolitan area and the south.
