Tenerife Launches €12.4 Million Road Repair Project Following Storm Damage
Tenerife’s Island Council has approved a €12.4 million budget to repair 17 roads damaged by Storm Therese, aiming to restore infrastructure and improve resilience against future extreme weather.
Tenerife is launching a major road repair project following the damage caused by Storm Therese in late March 2026. The Island Council has approved a €12.4 million budget to fix structural issues across 17 different roads.
Led by the Department of Roads, the plan aims to improve safety by addressing vulnerable areas of the island’s terrain. To speed up the process, the work has been divided into seven sections, allowing teams to stabilize slopes, rebuild drainage systems, and repair pavement all at once.
Crews will focus on 29 critical sites. The most complex project is on the TF-165 near El Pris in Tacoronte, which accounts for €1.4 million of the budget. Repairs are also scheduled across several other areas, including La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz, Los Realejos, La Laguna, Garachico, Los Silos, and El Tanque.
Beyond restoring traffic flow, these repairs are designed to make the island’s infrastructure more resilient to the increasingly frequent heavy rainfall in the region. The Island Council hopes to recover up to half of the project's cost through state funding for natural disaster recovery. These emergency measures are vital for maintaining safe travel across the island’s challenging landscape.
