Tenerife is celebrating a series of traditional April pilgrimages and cultural events, with officials encouraging the use of public transport and authentic folk attire to preserve the island's heritage.

Tenerife’s festive calendar is returning to its traditional rhythm this April, marking the start of a busy pilgrimage season. As reported by Tenerife en Red, these celebrations are more than just social gatherings; they are a vital way to preserve the Canary Islands' cultural heritage, a priority that has become increasingly important in recent years.

The town of Tegueste will be at the heart of the festivities, hosting the 57th Pilgrimage in honor of Saint Mark the Evangelist on April 26th. This event is famous for its unique carts, which are decorated entirely with agricultural produce—a true reflection of the area’s rural roots. To help pass these traditions on to the next generation, a children’s event will be held on April 19th, encouraging younger residents to learn about local customs and traditional dress.

Celebrations are also taking place elsewhere on the island. In the north, Icod de los Vinos will host its "Walk of Traditions" on April 25th, using the iconic Millennial Dragon Tree as a backdrop to showcase regional folklore. Meanwhile, in the south, the community of La Sabinita in Arico will hold a more intimate traditional dance on April 30th to round out the month.

Because large crowds are expected, officials are urging visitors to plan ahead. Using public transport is highly recommended, and extra services will be added to TITSA bus lines 050 and 051 for those traveling to Tegueste. Authorities are also asking attendees to wear the traditional "traje de mago" (folk costume) correctly, avoiding modern accessories that clash with the traditional aesthetic. This focus on authenticity is part of a wider effort to protect the integrity of these local festivals as tourism continues to grow.
