Due to unstable weather conditions, the Tenerife Island Council has issued a Level 1 forest fire alert for the south of the island, effective from 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14. This preventive measure aims to reduce the risk of fires as the island prepares for challenging weather in the coming days.
Blanca Pérez, the Councilor for Security and Emergencies, explained that while natural spaces remain open, strict restrictions are now in place for activities that could easily spark a fire during this period of high temperatures and low humidity. The Council is urging the public to be responsible and avoid using items like power generators, electrical equipment, fireworks, or tobacco while in forest areas.
Despite the alert, daily life in the mountains continues. Viewpoints, forest tracks, roads, campsites, and recreational areas remain open. Cyclists, horseback riders, and residents accessing their properties are still permitted to travel, provided they exercise extreme caution. Hunting is also allowed, though the use of shotguns is strictly prohibited.
These measures will remain in place until further notice. The Council is working to balance public access to nature with the need to protect the island’s forests.
