Tenerife is bracing for a new forest fire risk this weekend. The Island Council has announced that a Grade 1 preventive alert will take effect at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday, September 5, 2026. This decision follows updated weather forecasts, which have prompted authorities to increase safety measures in the island’s southern region—an area particularly vulnerable to fires due to its terrain and climate.
Blanca Pérez, the Councilor for Security and Emergencies, is urging the public to follow all safety protocols and avoid any activities that could accidentally spark a fire. These restrictions apply until further notice across 13 municipalities: Candelaria, Arafo, Güímar, Fasnia, Arico, Granadilla de Abona, San Miguel de Abona, Arona, Vilaflor de Chasna, Adeje, Guía de Isora, and Santiago del Teide, as well as the section of El Rosario below the TF-24 road.
While these specific areas are under direct restrictions, the Council advises everyone on the island to remain vigilant. Residents and visitors are asked to be extremely cautious with machinery, electrical equipment, and the disposal of cigarette butts.
