Tenerife is increasing control over tourists in protected areas and planning a "green" transport agreement.
Tenerife is increasing transport controls in the protected areas of Anaga and Teide to protect nature from over-tourism and congestion.
Tenerife has decided to seriously address ecology and tourism! Local authorities want tourists not to harm nature, especially in picturesque places – Anaga Rural Park and Teide National Park.
What are the plans? To create a special group that will deal with transport issues in these protected areas. And also – to conclude a "green" agreement, which will involve officials, experts, and ordinary residents.
It is said that in some places there are already too many cars, people park wherever they want, and tourist buses violate the rules. Therefore, action is needed!
The new commission will work together with ecologists and road workers. Control has already been tightened in the most problematic places, for example, near Cruz del Carmen (Anaga) and in the forests near Teide. Police officers and foresters are on duty there.
Violators are fined and their cars are even detained. The authorities warn that if people do not start respecting the rules, the restrictions will become even stricter.
And in Tenerife, they also want people to drive less. To this end, they plan to conclude a special agreement that will change the transport habits of the island's residents.
In addition, negotiations are underway with the Ministry of Transport on the construction of a railway in the Canary Islands. It is said that the train could relieve traffic congestion, but this issue will not be resolved quickly. Funds for construction are to be included in the budget no earlier than 2027.
Even the University of La Laguna has decided to help in the fight against traffic jams. They are working to ensure that students use cars less and more environmentally friendly transport. It is said that students are ready to cooperate and care for the environment.
