Tenerife International Fashion Week Crowns Emerging Design Talent
The fifteenth Tenerife International Fashion Week has commenced, featuring a showcase of global emerging talent and crowning Yeremay Hidalgo as the winner of the International Young Designers Contest.
The fifteenth Tenerife International Fashion Week (SIMTE) has officially kicked off, once again highlighting the island as a key destination for emerging fashion talent. Running until June 7, the event aims to bridge the gap between local creativity and the global fashion industry, supported by local institutions dedicated to growing the sector.
The International Young Designers Contest, a centerpiece of the week, saw Yeremay Hidalgo take home the top prize of 5,000 euros for his collection, "Lágrimas de Sal" (Tears of Salt). Second place went to Noé González de la Rosa for "ARCHIVE00," earning 3,000 euros, while Eva Gómez received 2,000 euros for "La Llave del Umbral" (The Key to the Threshold), which was recognized for its commercial potential.
The winners were selected from seven finalists, chosen from a pool of over 70 international applicants. The diverse group of finalists—hailing from countries including Indonesia, Venezuela, and Mexico, as well as the island of El Hierro—reflected the event's international focus. The awards ceremony was attended by Tenerife Island Council President Rosa Dávila and the Minister of Employment, Education, and Youth, Efraín Medina.
Beyond the competition, SIMTE 2026 offers a full program of workshops and exhibitions, ranging from runway shows in the "Black Box" to professional barbering demonstrations. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to professionalize the Canary Islands' design industry and provide a platform for both new and established brands.
