Tenerife Inmate Faces Seven-Year Sentence Over Prison Cocaine Seizure
Prosecutors are seeking a seven-year prison sentence for an inmate at Tenerife II after he was caught with over three grams of high-purity cocaine intended for distribution.
The battle against drug trafficking in prisons is back in the spotlight after prosecutors requested a seven-year sentence for an inmate at the Tenerife II penitentiary. According to local reports, the inmate was caught with 3.13 grams of 93% pure cocaine during a cell search.
The case, scheduled for trial on September 14 at the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, highlights the ongoing security challenges within Spanish prisons. Prosecutors argue that the drugs were intended for sale inside the facility. Given the estimated street value of 473 euros, the prosecution has also requested a fine of nearly 1,900 euros, in line with legal penalties for crimes against public health.
The upcoming hearing will include testimony from several key witnesses, including prison officers, the Deputy Inspector of Security, and the forensic experts who analyzed the drugs.
