Tenerife Hotel Staff Arrested for €100k Disco-Bar Fraud
Police in Tenerife arrested two hotel employees for allegedly stealing over 100,000 euros from their disco-bar by cancelling cash sales in the computer system over two years.
Police in Tenerife have arrested two men, aged 58 and 52, who are accused of stealing over 100,000 euros. The money was allegedly taken from the disco-bar at the hotel where they worked. They face charges of ongoing theft and fraud, made more serious by the large amount of money involved.
The investigation started after managers at the hotel, located in the coastal town of Adeje, filed a complaint. They told police that an internal audit had uncovered the possible theft of around 100,000 euros from the disco-bar's earnings.
The irregularities pointed to two long-term employees of the hotel. After gathering enough evidence, officers arrested the men.
The investigation revealed their method: after taking customer orders and receiving cash payments, the workers would cancel these sales in the hotel's computer system. This way, they tried to prevent managers from noticing discrepancies in the daily takings, sharing the money between themselves at the end of each day.
This alleged scheme went on for two years, leading to a total theft of over 100,000 euros from the company. The arrested men have been handed over to the judicial authorities.
