Tenerife is hosting two major theatrical productions, The Marriage of Figaro in Tacoronte and DES.-(desestructurados) in Adeje, as part of the Canary Islands' "Mares" cultural initiative.

Tenerife’s cultural scene gets a boost this weekend with two stage productions brought to the island by the production company unahoramenos and the Pérez Galdós Theater. These shows are part of the "Mares" program, an initiative by the Canary Islands Institute of Cultural Development (ICDC) designed to bring large-scale performances to communities outside the main cities.

This Sunday at 6:00 p.m., the Capitol Auditorium in Tacoronte will host The Marriage of Figaro. Directed by Mario Vega, the play dives into the social realities of the Canary Islands during the 1960s. The story focuses on the clash between the political goals of the "Canarias Libre" movement and the strict social control of the church at the time. The cast features Marta Viera, Ruth Sánchez, José Luis Massó, Mingo Ruano, and Rubén Darío. Thanks to the support of the Tacoronte City Council, this performance is free to attend.

On Friday, July 24, the focus shifts to the Adeje Auditorium, which will host DES.-(desestructurados) at 8:00 p.m. Directed by Mingo Ruano, this play examines the personal conflicts and relationship dynamics between a group of high school students and their teacher. Tickets for this show are 12 euros and can be purchased online at tomaticket.es.

These performances highlight the importance of cultural programs that allow major regional productions to tour across different municipalities. By partnering with public and private organizations, these initiatives help keep the local theater scene vibrant, offering audiences a mix of historical storytelling and modern social commentary.
