Tenerife Hosts Production of New Satirical Comedy 'Mi querida familia rusa'
Production is underway in Tenerife for Jordi Calvet’s satirical comedy Mi querida familia rusa, a star-studded film exploring cultural prejudices that is slated for a 2027 theatrical release.
Tenerife has become the backdrop for a new film project this summer: the satirical comedy Mi querida familia rusa (My Dear Russian Family). Written and directed by Jordi Calvet, production on the movie began in June.
Set for a 2027 theatrical release, the film explores the social friction caused by cultural stereotypes. The story follows a pianist whose announcement that he is marrying a pregnant Russian woman sparks a series of clashes between their two families. Beneath the comedy, the film aims to explore how people can overcome prejudices and find common ground despite their differences.
The production features a high-profile cast well-known in the Spanish entertainment industry, including Miki Nadal, Cristina Medina, Nerea Rodríguez, Mikel Herzog Jr., Pablo Puyol, Octavi Pujades, and Beatriz Rico. By casting these established television, theater, and film stars, the production team hopes to give the movie strong commercial appeal for its future box office run.
Filming has taken place across various locations in Tenerife, with a focus on Adeje and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, including a recent media event at a local golf course. The project is a collaboration between Único y Singular Films and Emedia Canary Projects, with executive supervision from Carmen Aguado, Malena González, and Calvet.
Productions like this continue to cement the Canary Islands' reputation as a premier filming location, supported by Spain’s film tax incentives. Choosing the islands not only boosts the local economy during filming but also allows the national industry to take advantage of the archipelago’s diverse landscapes for stories that aim to reach a wide audience through humor and social commentary.
