Tenerife Hosts Eighth Tricontinental Craft Fair Featuring Mexico as Guest Country
The eighth edition of the Tricontinental Craft Fair has opened at the Tenerife Exhibition Center, featuring over 200 artisans and guest country Mexico to promote cultural exchange and the preservation of traditional crafts.
The eighth edition of the Tricontinental Craft Fair is now open at the Tenerife Exhibition Center, where it will run until November 2nd. The event has become a staple of the island’s cultural calendar, bringing together over 200 master artisans from Europe, Africa, and the Americas.
More than just a marketplace, the fair serves as a vital boost to the local economy and a way to preserve traditional heritage. During the opening ceremony, Cabildo President Rosa Dávila emphasized the event’s role in fostering cultural exchange and supporting entrepreneurship. As traditional crafts face the pressures of a modern, globalized market, the fair is prioritizing training to ensure these skills survive. Efraín Medina, the island’s Minister of Employment, Education, and Youth, stressed the importance of passing these techniques on to the next generation through hands-on workshops.
The opening drew a large crowd, who enjoyed the "Viva Mexico" gala—a performance directed by Juan Carlos Armas featuring the Las Candelas bands. Mexico is this year’s guest country, a choice intended to strengthen cultural ties with the Americas. The event was attended by the honorary Mexican consul, María de los Ángeles Baca Herrejón, alongside Santa Cruz Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez and Deputy Minister of the Presidency Alfonso Cabello.
By combining live craft demonstrations with international folklore performances, the fair continues to act as a hub for intercultural dialogue, working to keep traditional trades alive in an increasingly standardized world.
