Tenerife Honey Fair Returns to La Orotava on September 26-27
The Tenerife Honey Fair returns to La Orotava on September 26th and 27th, featuring local artisanal products, educational exhibits, and workshops to celebrate the island's beekeeping industry.
Tenerife’s beekeeping community is gearing up for a major event. The Tenerife Honey Fair is returning to La Orotava on September 26th and 27th. The town has become a strategic hub for the industry, thanks to its unique landscape that supports honey production ranging from the coast all the way up to the slopes of Teide National Park.
La Orotava was chosen for the fair because it has the highest concentration of beehives on the island. Supported by the Tenerife Island Council and the Canary Islands Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA), the event aims to showcase the island’s diverse ecosystems and celebrate a craft that is as culturally significant as it is economically important. The fair, which moves to different locations, previously visited the town in 2022 and 2024.
The Plaza de la Constitución will host the event, which offers much more than just a marketplace. Doors will be open on Saturday, September 26th, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Sunday, September 27th, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. In addition to honey, visitors can browse a variety of local "kilometer 0" products, including wine, cheese, and artisanal pastries.
The fair also has a strong educational focus. A "museum-hive" will be set up to show how bee colonies work and what beekeeping involves. The schedule includes guided tastings, children’s workshops, technical talks, and live cooking demonstrations. The main stage will also feature musical performances and the awards ceremony for the island’s honey photography contest.
Local food and craft producers interested in participating have until September 5th to apply. Applications can be sent to apiten@apiten.es, where they will be reviewed to ensure a balanced selection of vendors. The fair continues to grow as a vital showcase for the quality of Tenerife’s local food scene.
