Tenerife Home to Spain's Kilo-Sized Arepa
Estación 58 in Santa Úrsula, Tenerife, has gained popularity for creating Spain's largest arepa, a nearly one-kilogram culinary marvel that became a permanent menu item after immense success.
Spain's largest arepa can be found in Tenerife, specifically in Santa Úrsula. What began as a temporary special has become a huge success. This Venezuelan restaurant has created the country's biggest arepa, a culinary marvel that weighs almost a kilo.
Venezuelan arepas have become very popular in the Canary Islands recently. Filled with delicious options like 'reina pepiada' (shredded chicken and avocado), 'pelúa' (shredded beef and yellow cheese), or 'perico' (egg, tomato, onion, and pepper), they are now a favourite dish for both residents and visitors.
The restaurant, Estación 58, has become widely known thanks to this huge arepa – the largest in the Canary Islands and all of Spain. They first added an XXL version of their arepa to the menu in August. It was so popular that they decided to keep it permanently.
The dough itself weighs half a kilo, and with all the fillings, the arepa reaches about one kilo. This impressive weight makes it the biggest arepa in the Canary Islands and Spain. However, it's only made to order because it takes longer to cook and prepare.
The menu at Estación 58 offers a true taste of Venezuela. You can start with homemade tequeños, patacones, or chicharrones. For drinks, they have traditional options like Frescolita or the refreshing papelón con limón.
For dessert, don't miss the Clipper arepa, a sweet dish named after the famous Canarian soft drink. Or try the Venezuelan chicha, a creamy drink made from rice, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla.
Many customers say that "every bite transports you directly to Caracas," calling the restaurant a little piece of Venezuela in northern Tenerife.
You can find Estación 58 at Carretera Provincial, 34, Santa Úrsula (Santa Cruz de Tenerife). It's the perfect spot for anyone who loves Venezuelan food and a good challenge!
The restaurant is open daily from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM. It closes only on January 1st (New Year's Day) and on January 7th and 8th for staff to rest.
