Tenerife Hit by Dual Highway Chaos: North and South Gridlocked

Source: El Día

Two nearly simultaneous crashes on North Tenerife's TF-5 highway near Santa Úrsula caused major traffic jams and injuries, compounding earlier congestion from a separate multi-vehicle accident on the southern TF-1.

Two crashes on the North Tenerife highway (TF-5) caused major traffic jams in several areas. According to sources from 112 Canarias, around 12:20 AM, two nearly simultaneous incidents blocked one of Tenerife's main roads. The collisions, one near La Corujera and another at kilometer 30, both happened in the Santa Úrsula area, leading to delays that lasted for hours.

The problems weren't limited to the TF-5. Many drivers tried to avoid the congestion by taking a detour through La Orotava. This, in turn, led to queues on the Provincial Road (TF-217). The TF-21 also became heavily congested; an accident on that road, combined with the sheer number of cars spilling over from the TF-217, severely tested drivers' patience.

In the North highway crashes, heading towards Santa Cruz, several people were hurt, but how seriously is not yet known. Firefighters from the Tenerife Consortium, SUC ambulances, and the Traffic Civil Guard are all at the scene, along with Road Service crews.

This northern congestion follows another major traffic problem that happened in the south earlier in the morning. Tenerife's two main roads experienced severe traffic issues almost at the same time. The TF-1, the main southern highway, had to be closed near Las Chafiras after a serious multi-vehicle accident.
