Tenerife Heatwave Ends as Cooler Temperatures and Rain Forecast
Tenerife’s recent heatwave is subsiding as the State Meteorological Agency forecasts cooler temperatures, moderate northeasterly winds, and light, scattered rain across the island's northern mid-altitudes.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) reports that the recent heatwave in Tenerife is coming to an end. As weather patterns shift across the Canary Islands, residents in the north should prepare for light, scattered rain in mid-altitude areas.
Aemet expects low-level clouds to settle in the north between 900 and 1,100 meters. The rest of the island will remain mostly clear, with only occasional cloud cover in the south. Temperatures will stay steady or drop slightly in the north and west, with highs reaching around 24°C.
Wind will play a major role in the day’s weather. A moderate northeasterly breeze is expected, which will strengthen by the afternoon in areas including the eastern slopes, the western tip, and the mid-altitudes south of the metropolitan area. Stronger gusts are possible in these spots, while the western coasts will see calmer conditions.
This unsettled weather is typical for the mountainous islands. Across the archipelago, clouds will generally gather below 900–1,200 meters, bringing a chance of drizzle to mid-altitude regions before clearing in the afternoon. On the eastern islands, clouds will mostly affect the north and west, though skies should brighten as the day goes on. Similar to Tenerife, the mountainous islands will experience stronger winds in the northwest and southeast, contrasting with the calm breezes along the southwestern coasts.
