The Cathedral of La Laguna in Tenerife, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has opened its bell tower to visitors and offers audio guides in various languages.
La Laguna Cathedral in Tenerife is a must-see! Its majestic neoclassical facade attracts many tourists. The city of La Laguna, where it is located, is even a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You can take a guided tour, exploring the chapels and other interesting places. And now there is another cool opportunity – to climb the bell tower!
The cathedral is located in the heart of the historic center of San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Its history began in the 16th century, when the parish church of Los Remedios was built here (it still bears this name). The church received the status of a cathedral in 1819, and in the early 20th century it was completely reconstructed and acquired its modern appearance.
La Laguna Cathedral has been a cultural monument since 1983. Only the neoclassical facade has been preserved from the first building. But inside, the cathedral is decorated in the neo-Gothic style: vaults with cross ribs and a wide ambulatory. Among the most valuable things here are the baroque altar of the Virgin Mary of Los Remedios, the pulpit made of Italian marble, and a collection of works of art kept in the Hall of Treasures.
Tickets to the cathedral can be purchased on its website.
