Tenerife is guaranteed at least one new representative in the Liga Iberdrola next season after three local women’s volleyball teams advanced to the promotion tournament semifinals.

Tenerife has cemented its status as a powerhouse in women’s volleyball, with the island guaranteed at least one new representative in the Liga Iberdrola next season. Following a dominant performance in the promotion phase at the Quico Cabrera pavilion, all three local teams have advanced to the tournament semifinals.

This success ensures a new spot for Tenerife in the top flight. The first semifinal, scheduled for 5:00 PM, features an all-Tenerife clash between Élite Vóley and Fedes Ascensores La Laguna. Because the tournament rules grant direct promotion to the winners of these matches, one of these two teams is guaranteed a place in the elite league. In the second semifinal at 7:30 PM, Cuesta Piedra will face Leganés, competing for the second promotion spot.

The island’s teams reached this stage after an impressive group phase. Élite Vóley finished at the top of Group B with an undefeated record, while Cuesta Piedra won Group A. Fedes Ascensores La Laguna also secured a semifinal spot as the Group A runner-up, following a commanding 3-0 victory over Barça.

In contrast, the island’s men’s volleyball team, Arona, struggled during the promotion phase. Led by Kako Hernández, the team finished without a win after losses to San Sadurniño and Grupo Egido.

The rise of these women’s teams highlights the strength of local sports management and youth development, while further decentralizing top-tier volleyball in Spain. If Cuesta Piedra defeats Leganés, Tenerife could see two teams promoted simultaneously, marking a historic achievement for the region, which is already represented in the top division by Haris.
