Tenerife Gas Station Robbery: Two Arrested, Released on Charges
A man and woman were arrested in Tenerife for allegedly robbing eight gas stations using rented cars, though later released with charges, while an accomplice who provided the vehicles remains jailed.
Police have arrested a man, 44, and a woman, 41, both known to police, for allegedly robbing eight gas stations in Adeje and Arona, in southern Tenerife.
The investigation started after several gas stations were robbed in September, all in a similar way. Police identified the suspects, who used different cars – some their own, some rented – to commit the crimes.
A third person rented the cars and gave them to the pair specifically for the robberies.
They repeated the same trick each time: the woman would park the car near the car wash, pretending everything was normal, while the man broke into the machine where the money was kept and stole the cash.
After looking at the evidence, police figured out that the same group committed eight robberies and identified all three people involved. They then set up an operation near the main suspects' home, arrested them, and took them to court.
The judge has released both of them but they still face charges. The person who rented the cars has also been charged, but is already in prison at the Tenerife II Penitentiary Center.
