Tenerife Football Federation Presidential Race Enters Critical Endorsement Phase

The race for the presidency of the Inter-Island Football Federation of Tenerife has reached a critical stage following the formation of the assembly, the body responsible for approving leadership candidates. The election is now moving into the endorsement phase, which will determine whether the new president is appointed by acclamation or decided by a formal vote.

The contest features the incumbent president, Alejandro Morales Mansito, against former secretary-general Ramón Hernández Baussou. The 120-member assembly—made up of clubs, coaches, players, and referees—will decide the outcome. To officially run, each candidate must secure at least 18 endorsements. If both reach this threshold, the presidency will be decided by a secret ballot at an extraordinary assembly.

Current analysis suggests an early advantage for Morales Mansito. While Hernández Baussou has strong support in La Palma, the incumbent holds a firm lead in Tenerife, La Gomera, and El Hierro, and has the backing of the refereeing sector. It remains to be seen if the opposition can gather the required signatures, a question that will be answered during the endorsement period from May 22 to May 27.

This election is significant as the federation looks to move past the era of long-time leader Juan Padrón Morales and establish a period of stability. While the numbers currently favor the incumbent, the endorsement process serves as a vital test of support.
