Tenerife Folk Dances Face Surge in Popularity as Table Reservations Sell Out

Securing a table at Tenerife’s traditional bailes de magos has become increasingly competitive, with high demand forcing organizers to adopt rapid digital booking systems for these popular folk celebrations.

Securing a spot at Tenerife’s traditional bailes de magos (folk dances) has become as competitive as buying tickets for a major concert, according to a recent report by Atlántico Hoy. This trend shows just how popular these celebrations remain, but it also highlights the growing challenge of finding space at events that were once known for being spontaneous and open to everyone.

While entry to these dances is usually free—provided you wear traditional costume—reserving a table for a group is a different story. Demand far outweighs supply, leading to a competitive reservation market. Costs vary by town and organizer, though the price is typically split among group members to keep it affordable.

Prices depend on the location and the size of the venue. For example, tables for eight in San Benito or at the early May event in Santa Cruz cost 15 euros. In Candelaria, a table for ten costs 25 euros, plus a 5-euro entry fee per person. Meanwhile, for this Saturday’s event in Puerto de la Cruz, a ten-seat table is priced at 30 euros.

This shift reflects the tension between keeping folk traditions alive and managing the logistics of large-scale events. As these dances become a central part of Tenerife’s social calendar, organizers have had to adopt professional digital booking systems—which often sell out in just minutes—to handle the massive crowds.
