Tenerife Fire Consortium Invests €1.8 Million to Modernize Emergency Fleet
The Tenerife Fire Consortium has invested 1.8 million euros in eight new specialized vehicles to improve emergency response times and navigate the island's challenging urban and rural terrain.
Tenerife’s challenging landscape—a mix of crowded urban centers and protected natural areas—has long made emergency response difficult. To overcome these logistical hurdles, the Tenerife Fire Consortium has invested 1.8 million euros to upgrade its vehicle fleet.
The modernization plan includes eight new vehicles designed for specific tasks. The fleet will now feature a heavy urban pumper, two all-wheel-drive rural units, and five light pick-up trucks. This mix is intentional: the heavy-duty vehicles will be stationed in La Laguna, Icod de los Vinos, and San Miguel de Abona to handle structural fires and major rescues. Meanwhile, the versatile pick-up trucks—three of which carry rapid-extinguishing systems—will allow firefighters to reach narrow streets and remote areas quickly, where every second counts in stopping a fire from spreading.
Beyond just replacing old equipment, this upgrade focuses on efficiency and safety. The new vehicles feature automatic transmissions and redesigned interiors for better tool storage, which reduces physical strain on crews and makes essential equipment easier to access during an emergency.
Leadership from the Consortium and the Island Council’s Security department emphasized that this is part of an ongoing effort to modernize. By ensuring the right vehicle is sent to the right incident, the service can better navigate the island’s difficult terrain. This investment aims to provide a reliable, 21st-century response to the diverse challenges Tenerife faces, from industrial zones to rugged mountain landscapes.
