Five additional nightlife venues in Santa Cruz de Tenerife have joined the island’s sexual assault prevention protocol, which provides staff with specialized training and safety resources to protect patrons.

Tenerife is expanding its safety network against sexist violence in nightlife venues. Five new establishments in the island’s capital—Bulan Chill Out-Restaurant, The Red Lion British Pub, Bambú Lounge Tenerife, Azotea Urban 180, and Sabbath—have officially joined the island’s sexual assault prevention and response protocol. This expansion follows a partnership between the Tenerife Island Council (Cabildo) and the Santa Cruz City Council.

The program goes beyond a simple pledge by providing staff with hands-on training. Employees are being taught how to spot potential risks early, support victims, and coordinate with security forces and support services. Participating venues are also required to set up internal safety procedures and display awareness materials in Spanish, English, and German to ensure all visitors are informed.

This initiative strengthens a protection network already active in Adeje, Arona, Puerto de la Cruz, and Santa Cruz, which has already brought a dozen venues on board. Authorities now plan to include La Laguna as the next step in creating a consistent, island-wide safety net.

Rosa Dávila, President of the Cabildo, emphasized that the active involvement of business owners is vital to ensuring everyone can enjoy nightlife safely and freely. Patricia León, head of the Directorate of Equality and Diversity, added that the goal is to provide leisure venues with the tools they need to make Tenerife a model for protecting women from sexual violence. This effort addresses the growing need for better security in nightlife, highlighting the importance of close cooperation between private businesses and public institutions.
