Tenerife Expands Global Connectivity With New North American and European Routes
Tenerife is set to significantly expand its global connectivity by 2026, launching its first direct North American flights and increasing European and domestic routes to bolster the island's business and tourism sectors.
Tenerife is set for a major boost in connectivity by 2026, with a new strategy designed to strengthen the island’s economy beyond traditional tourism. As the Tenerife Island Council explains, improving air travel is essential for the island’s professional, commercial, and event sectors.
The most significant development is the island's first direct link to North America. Starting in the 2026-2027 winter season, Air Canada will launch non-stop flights from Toronto and Montreal. This move is aimed at attracting long-haul travelers throughout the year.
Meanwhile, the European market is also growing. AirBaltic will open a seasonal base at Tenerife South Airport, connecting the island to Ljubljana, Liège, Palanga, and Groningen. Additionally, Air Serbia will begin two weekly flights to Belgrade, helping to expand Tenerife’s reach into Eastern Europe.
Traditional European routes are also being bolstered. Air France is increasing its flights from Paris-Charles de Gaulle for the summer, and TAP Air Portugal is raising its service from Lisbon to four flights per week. These additions are key to maintaining steady tourism demand year-round.
Domestically, Binter Canarias is expanding its mainland reach, adding more flights from Vigo, Valencia, and Asturias, while extending routes to cities like Valladolid, Granada, and Pamplona. The airline is also launching new connections to Seville and Badajoz. Furthermore, the air bridge to Madrid will be strengthened: Iberia Express will operate 74 weekly flights each way, and Vueling will increase its total capacity by 7% during the summer, with a focus on links from Oviedo and Valencia.
This expanded network does more than just help residents travel; it positions Tenerife as a key hub for business tourism, conferences, and international events.
