Tenerife Emergency Services Tackle Series of Weekend Fires

Emergency services in Tenerife were kept busy this past weekend as they responded to a series of fires across the island. According to the Tenerife Fire Consortium, crews dealt with more than ten separate incidents, ranging from stubble fires to outbreaks in areas where residential neighborhoods meet wildland, highlighting the island's ongoing vulnerability to fire.

Emergency teams worked closely together throughout the weekend to manage the situation. A particularly complex operation took place on Saturday evening near the ascent to Los Loros in Candelaria. Firefighters from the Güímar station were joined by the Civil Guard, Canary Islands Police, Local Police, CECOPIN, and the BRIFOR forest firefighting team to bring the blaze under control.

Other incidents included a stubble fire in the Barranco de Santos on Sunday evening and a similar fire near the former Faculty of Fine Arts early Monday morning.

Beyond vegetation fires, crews also responded to structural and property damage. Early Sunday morning, firefighters in the capital extinguished a fire at an abandoned house in Montaña de Taco and remained on-site to ensure the area was fully cooled. The weekend’s tally also included a vehicle fire on the Campo de Golf road (TF-235) and several smaller fires involving waste and street furniture in La Gallega.

This spike in activity serves as a reminder of the importance of fire prevention. The quick response from emergency teams was essential in stopping these scattered outbreaks from escalating into more dangerous situations.
