Tenerife Echeyde Femenino secured their spot in the Conference Cup Final Eight, a significant achievement for Spanish water polo, after defeating German team Bochum 19-9.
Tenerife Echeyde Femenino has made it to the Conference Cup Final Eight, a big step for Spanish water polo. They secured their spot by beating German team Bochum 19-9 in their second game of Phase 2, which took place in Serbia.
This win against Bochum, who also started the tournament with a victory, shows how strong the Tenerife team is in this European competition. Echeyde had already won their first game on Friday against Greek team Chania, meaning they have a perfect winning record in Serbia so far, with one game left to play.
The match against Bochum clearly showed Tenerife's dominance. They quickly took a 2-0 lead, and the first quarter ended with a close score of 3-2. But Echeyde steadily pulled ahead. By halftime, they were up 8-4, and their lead grew even more in the third quarter, ending it at a strong 15-7.
The team's overall performance, with great attacking and strong defending, was crucial to their 19-9 victory. Players like Maryn Dempsey, Elena Camarena, Renée De Kleer, Carla Martín, María Ramos, Júlia Rodríguez, Natalia Naya, Ainhoa Pinar, and Marta Madre all scored goals, and Maku Bello was excellent in goal. Even with a few less smooth moments and some referee calls that gave penalties to their opponents, Echeyde was in control of the game throughout.
With their qualification secured, the team will play their third and final game of this phase today against the host club, Vojvodina. Vojvodina also won their game yesterday against Chania. This upcoming match will wrap up a successful phase for Echeyde and help them get ready to compete for the European title in the Final Eight.
