A Tenerife fast-food restaurant, 922 Bocatería, publicly apologized and took responsibility on TikTok after several customers suffered food poisoning, prompting closure, investigation, and offers of support.

Getting food poisoning at a restaurant can be really serious, both for the person who's sick and for the restaurant itself, which could lose customers.

But a fast food place in Tenerife, called 922 Bocatería, did something pretty unusual when faced with this problem: they took responsibility. The managers posted videos on TikTok explaining what happened on October 13th and what they've done since finding out that several people got sick after eating there.

They're also working with the authorities to figure out what caused the problem.

In their video, the owners said a doctor from the Hospital de la Candelaria alerted them about the food poisoning. Several customers who ate at the restaurant had stomach issues like vomiting and diarrhea. At first, they thought it was salmonella, but that was ruled out.

The restaurant managers decided to "act immediately" and called emergency services to find out what to do.

After that call, they closed the restaurant for a few days to find the source of the problem.

After an inspection by the Health Department, and getting some advice on how to improve, the managers froze the chicken that they thought was the cause. This allowed health officials to take samples and try to find the bacteria that made the customers sick.

The owners explained that the possible reasons for the contamination were cross-contamination, improper handling, or the chicken being in bad condition when it arrived.

To ensure customer safety, they threw away all opened food to prevent any further contamination and disinfected the entire restaurant.

The managers of 922 Bocatería apologized to the customers who got sick and offered to help them through the process. They've already contacted their insurance company. Customers who ate at the restaurant that day and became ill can contact them at soporte@922bocateria.com for guidance.
