Tenerife Court to Try Defendant for Violent Robbery Leaving Victim Permanently Injured
The Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will begin a trial on May 26 for a defendant facing a seven-year prison sentence for a violent robbery that left the victim with permanent facial injuries.
The Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set to hear a robbery case on May 26th involving a violent assault that left the victim with permanent injuries. Prosecutors are seeking a seven-year prison sentence for the defendant, who is accused of attacking the victim while attempting to steal an electric bicycle and cash.
According to the indictment, the assault was severe enough to cause the victim to lose four teeth and suffer lip injuries, resulting in permanent facial deformity. Because of the seriousness of these injuries, the charges have been elevated beyond a standard robbery. In addition to the prison term, the prosecution is requesting a 2,200-euro fine and at least 6,200 euros in compensation to cover the victim's dental expenses, which may increase depending on future treatment needs.
The incident, which left the victim unable to carry out daily activities for five days, involved the theft of 39 euros in cash. While the stolen bicycle was later sold for 200 euros, its original value exceeded 400 euros, the legal threshold that distinguishes between minor and serious theft. The bicycle was left unusable following the altercation.
This trial underscores the strict approach of the Spanish Penal Code toward robberies involving significant physical harm. Under Spanish law, when a robbery compromises a victim's physical integrity, it is treated as a serious crime against a person rather than just a property crime. The upcoming hearing will determine the defendant's responsibility for the robbery, the violence used, and the lasting injuries caused to the victim.
